Course Description
This course explores the rapidly growing alternative therapeutic field of equine assisted therapy. It will investigate the following topics: general background and history of the field; theories and philosophy behind the field; types of programs that utilize equine therapy and the variety of populations they serve; the science and research behind its efficacy; legal and ethical concerns associated with this field. This course will take an in-depth look at the therapeutic potential of the human-horse relationship and why horses are used as a therapeutic tool for humans. All Students will have the opportunity to work one on one with their own horse.
Students interested in becoming certified and pursuing a future in the field of Equine Therapy will be given all the information, requirements and next steps of action from Good Hope Farm during our 1~Day field trip to their organization. There is a 2~Day horse rental fee of $102.50 per student that will be added by NVU. Completion of this course does not include any professional equine therapy certificate.
